Munich a haven for culture-vultures

The German city of Munich is an ideal holiday home destination for culture-loving Brits.

Holiday home insurance customers looking for a destination that provides culture may be drawn to the Germany city of Munich.

According to STR Global figures the city has seen a huge rise in visitor numbers, with its hotels seeing a 26.3 per cent rise in occupancy during June 2010.

And Klaus Lohmann, UK & Ireland director for the German National Tourism Office, highlighted the reasons why so many tourists and homebuyers opted to head to the Bavarian capital.

"Munich has definitely profited from its worldwide reputation as a city of art and culture," he said.

Mr Lohmann said the city's expanding museum district was of particular interest as it houses "world-class collections, traditional ateliers, modern art halls and galleries."

Munich is located in the Riva Isar north of the Bavarian Alps and is home to over five million people, with 1.35 million living within the city limits.
