Spanish holiday home insurance: Brits looking abroad

A growing number of Brits are looking to move abroad with Spain being the most popular choice, new figures reveal.

Holiday home insurance customers are keener than ever to buy a property in Spain, according to new research.

Figures from Primelocation's monthly report on property reveals that the number of Brits looking for an overseas property has doubled from the same time last year, with many wanting to become Spanish home insurance policy holders.

The company's international search index for last month shows a huge 151 per cent rise in searches for homes in Spain compared to June 2009.

Ann Wright, international development manager of Primelocation International, highlighted why the country remains a strong favourite for Brits buying abroad.

"The fact is that there are many reasons why the country remains attractive to British buyers," she said.

"Spain's main attractions are still the warm climate, great beaches and unique culture all just a short flight from the UK; these factors will still draw in international buyers whatever the economic situation."

Travel writer Zoe Dare Hall told the Telegraph that the old town quarters of cities such as Barcelona and Madrid are ideal places to look for hidden property gems.
