Take the train to holiday home in France

Holiday home insurance customers in France may consider taking the train next time they travel to the continent.

Taking the train to a second property in France may be the ideal option for home insurance customers.

According to Bill Smallwood, managing director of French Travel Service, rail travel offers a more relaxing and indulgent way to get from A to B.

He said it provides a "more civilised, more comfortable way of travelling, combined with the opportunity to see the changing landscapes of France as you head south."

In addition, train travel also involves less hassle and will not be disrupted by incidents like the Icelandic volcano ash cloud.

"When people say that air travel is so much quicker and that it only takes two hours to get to the Mediterranean, they don't factor in the two-hour check-in time at the airport and a lengthy transfer at the other end," Mr Smallwood said.

"I can't think of many resorts that boast their own airport, whereas they all have a railway station, so the train delivers you direct to your final destination."

A host of music festivals, including the annual International Piano Festival will be taking place in France in August.
